What goes wrong with baseboards & trim if you wait
Gaps at corners and joints
Poorly cut or shrinking trim opens up at the corners and joints, which looks unfinished and collects dust.
Damaged or missing pieces
Baseboards get dented by vacuums, chewed by pets and sometimes go missing after renovations or plumbing work.
Water swollen trim
MDF baseboards in kitchens, bathrooms and entries swell and crumble when they get wet.
Old trim after new flooring
New floors often sit at a different height and leave gaps or mismatched trim that needs replacing.
Common jobs we take on
- New baseboard installation
- Door and window casing
- Quarter round and shoe moulding
- Damaged trim replacement and caulking
How Lower Mainland weather affects baseboards & trim
Wood and MDF trim expand and contract with the seasonal humidity swings typical of Lower Mainland homes, which is why caulked joints crack and corners open up over time.
Rainy weather also means wet boots and umbrellas at the door and more mopping. In entries, bathrooms and laundry rooms, moisture resistant trim and a good paint finish help baseboards last.
Warning signs to watch for
- Gaps at inside or outside corners
- Dents, chips or swollen sections
- Cracked caulking along the top edge
- Missing trim after renovations or flooring
- Dated trim that does not match the rest of the home
Maintenance tips
- Wipe baseboards clean regularly
- Re-caulk cracked joints when you repaint
- Use moisture resistant trim in wet areas
- Touch up dents and chips with paint
- Protect corners in high traffic areas

Baseboard & Trim Installation: frequently asked questions
Do you install baseboards after new flooring?
Yes. It is one of the most common jobs we do, and we can install the flooring too.
Can you match my existing trim?
We match most common profiles. For older or custom profiles we find the closest match or suggest replacing a full room so it looks consistent.
MDF or wood baseboards?
MDF is affordable and paints well in dry rooms. Solid wood or PVC trim is better in bathrooms, entries and basements.
